Participation in AASV 2026 represented a highly valuable academic and professional experience in my development as a veterinary student interested in swine production. The opportunity to attend an international specialized event made it possible to gain firsthand insight into the scientific, technological, and sanitary advancements that are currently transforming the global swine industry.
This experience broadened my perspective on the importance of preventive medicine, biosecurity, epidemiology, disease control, herd health management, optimization of swine production systems, and the comprehensive management of herd health.
Through conferences and technical discussions, I gained a deeper understanding of how the implementation of well-structured health programs, continuous disease monitoring, and the use of advanced diagnostic tools significantly contribute to improving productivity and animal welfare. These areas represent fields of great impact within veterinary medicine, as they enhance production efficiency and ensure the sustainability of the industry.
Another important aspect was the strengthening of my professional motivation. Learning about the work of specialists, researchers, and leading veterinarians in the international swine industry allowed me to envision new opportunities for professional and academic growth within the sector. As a result of this experience, I am committed to sharing the knowledge acquired with fellow students, professors, and others interested in swine production.
Finally, attending this international event reinforced my professional commitment to contribute to the development and strengthening of the swine industry in Mexico by applying up-to-date knowledge, promoting best production practices, and encouraging the implementation of health strategies that improve animal health, productivity, and the sustainability of swine systems.
I am deeply grateful for the support provided by Fundación Martha Acosta and the AASV Foundation, as these types of initiatives significantly contribute to the education and training of students interested in swine medicine and production. Investing in the education and development of new generations of veterinarians is essential to ensuring the future of the swine industry. These initiatives not only promote students’ professional growth, but also foster innovation, knowledge transfer, and continuous improvement in animal production systems.
