On April 28, 2023, in the city of Tepatitlán de Morelos in the state of Jalisco, through the University Center of Los Altos (CUAltos, UDG), the Martha Acosta Foundation presented the MVZ Juan Manuel Magallón Mares (RIP) scholarship.
The designation of the winning student was defined by the University Center of Los Altos, who named as winner the student José de Jesús González Franco, student of the 8th semester of the Career of Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics.
One of the main objectives in the delivery of this scholarship was to honor MVZ Juan Manuel Magallón Mares (RIP) for his excellence through his career and his performance as a professional servicing the swine industry.
The award ceremony was attended by representatives of the industry, relatives of the mentor honored and educational authorities of the university, taking place in the Hall of Former Rectors of said University Center.
The pleasant presence of representatives of the pig industry was extraordinary, starting with the MVZ José Mario Rosado Estrada, Treasurer of the Mexican Association of Veterinary Specialists in Pigs (AMVEC); the MVZ Salvador Espinoza Covarrubias, President of the Association of Veterinary Specialists in Swine in the highest Swine Production Area of Jalisco (AMVECAJ); the MVZ Teodoro Miguel Merlos Treasurer of the Association of Swine Veterinarians in the Jalisco West Area and the MVZ Jorge Ivan Espinoza Vázquez, Director of the Regional Union of SwineProducers of Jalisco (URPJ).
Likewise with the valuable presence of the Magallón Family, conformed by the MVZ Luis Manuel Magallón Gómez, (Father of the Honored Mentor) and Mtra. Gricelda Mares Barajas (Mother of the Honored mentor), in the company of family and friends. In turn the advertising company founded by the MVZ Juan Manuel Magallón Mares (RIP). Called Visión Porcina which was represented by MVZ Alonso Ramirez Romo and MVZ Geovani De Jesús Hernández Carrera.
The presidium was formed by Dr. Edgar Eduardo Pulido Chávez, Director of the Division of Agricultural Sciences and Engineering; Dr. Martha Alicia Acosta Padilla, Founder and President of the Martha Acosta Foundation; La Mtra. Carmen Leticia Orozco López, Head of the Department of Livestock and Agricultural Sciences; and Indira Merary Guardado Bueno, Head of the Scholarships and Exchanges Unit.
During the ceremony, Dr. Edgar Pulido Chávez Director of CUAltos, highlighted the importance of being located in the North Region of and the importance of promoting students of Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics to serve the Industry of Swine Production. Subsequently, Dr. Martha Acosta gave a remembrance of the honored mentor, expressing the vision she maintains for the Martha Acosta Foundation, aspiring to provide more and more support for students with orientation to the Swine sector and her contribution to the Mexican Swine Industry, evoking the memory of each mentor chosen through the issuance of each scholarship.
During the event, the personal and professional life profile of MVZ Juan Manuel Magallón Mares (RIP) was read, broadcasting a visual clip of the mentor’s life trajectory. Subsequently, the diploma and stipend were awarded to the new scholar of the Martha Acosta Foundation. He expressed his gratitude and enthusiasm for having been chosen as the winner of the MVZ Juan Manuel Magallón Mares Scholarship 2023.
