Stories of those who have lived the experience

“.My experience receiving the scholarship was rewarding in all aspects; Everything started in September 2021, a teacher sent me the call because in a class I told her that I wanted to dedicate myself to pigs, but the academic and professional environment had led me to small species, a situation that did not fill my heart. I was not so motivated to carry out the scholarship process but the teacher insisted a lot and today I thank both, her (Dr. Martha Georgina) and Dr. Martha Acosta changed my life. I filled the necessary criteria and I thought I would not pass the selection process because of my average, although it was good I thought there would be better.
A month passed and, in that month, I was reading about the company SISPRO INC., about Martha Acosta, about Dr. Arana and I was surprised at how great they both are: great veterinarians who inspire people, who help, teach and create impact on society. I realize that Dr. Arana was a teacher at CUCBA and I did not get to know her, but on the internet there are many reviews of her, as a woman who is still admired. I did not had news of the scholarship until one day I received a call from the veterinary division telling me that I had been selected for the scholarship and I had to attend the meeting, I told the professor that I had won the scholarship, my mom, my partner and we all agreed to attend. It was great that day I felt sheltered by several people and I knew new people, I was very happy to meet Dr. Martha Acosta who was the first woman to graduate from CUCBA.
Thanks to the scholarship I did my professional practices in a site 1 of the UGRPG, where at the end of the practices I was offered base as head of the site / Farm Manager. I was also given a computer equipment support, sponsorship for congresses, uniforms of the Martha Acosta Foundation, the prizes of having won the scholarship do not stop and more than a year has passed already. I will always be grateful to the Foundation for supporting veterinary medicine students, we are very motivated by the form of integration of the foundation because we feel protected towards the working life and I say “we feel” in plural since 2 more scholarships were awarded to two CUCBA students, with whom I am in constant communication. I will be aware of their training and I will support at anything they need, because all this intention is to create a niche of pig farmers in which, more than colleagues, we are a family .
I proudly say that the Martha Acosta Foundation has everything to support veterinary medicine students who want to join the pig farmers and ensure quality education in Mexico, more than an economic support it is a support for life.”

“For me, being awarded with the scholarship was an opportunity for both academic and personal growth, as it allowed me to achieve short-term goals during my undergraduate studies.
Being a student of limited economic resources made it very difficult for me to access specialized conferences and congresses, but thanks to the scholarship given to me by the Martha Acosta Foundation I had the opportunity to train better by enrolling in the association of veterinary doctors specialized in pigs (AMVEC) and thus have access to a more updated training that allowed me to enter the area of pig farming in a successful way.
In addition, I managed to cover daily expenses in the last semester of college that correspond to internship that we know are not usually paid and I had the opportunity to acquire specialized books that have been very useful in my professional work.
As if this was not enough, the foundation also gave me close accompaniment that allowed me to meet expert people in the pig area which were fundamental pillars for my incursion into professional life.
I deeply thank the Martha Acosta Foundation for the opportunity for growth it gave me through the scholarship and, I wish that more students have access to this type of opportunities to strengthen the development of agricultural sciences.”

“I was given the possibility to open my horizons as a woman. Where I believed that pig farming was an area with physical and gender difficulties, I was confided that it is much more than that; There is the desire to learn, grow and excel in the zootechnical field.
The scholarship has allowed me to cover some expenses to focus on boosting my participation in specialized training, as well as forums, workshops, some books to be constantly updated, in the same way this has allowed me to find people with my same passion, values and love towards pig farming, generating experiences and learning quite valuable for my future.

“The scholarship granted by the foundation was not only an economic support, but it was an impulse to motivate me much more than I was to continue learning about swine farming and also made me meet many people in the industry that have been of great support. With the scholarship I paid for my course in applied statistics for farm doctors and I am currently on an academic exchange at the University of Concepción, Chile. The scholarship has been of great support for the academic exchange, where with the help of Dr. Alvaro Ruiz and Dr. Francisco Saravia I am strengthening my knowledge and knowing their excellent quality standards and how they have been updated; it has also helped me to improve my intercultural skills and to know different legislations, totally necessary in a globalized world.
For me it is an honor to be a scholarship recipient of the foundation, to meet Dr. Martha Acosta and her team, to have the opportunity to see another panorama, to open my horizons and to meet people I admire, everything has been a great motivation as a student and as a person.
Finally, I consider that what the foundation is doing by providing support to students who want to improve themselves is a good for society, not just for the student, this and each of the projects that are being carried out are of recognition and inspiration.”

“My experience as a recipient of the scholarship has been deeply gratifying and motivating in my training as a future veterinary zootechnician, this because it focuses especially on swine farming, an area which is of my total admiration and respect, the same that has monopolized my focus as a future veterinarian.
It all starts on August 28, 2023 where one of my colleagues informs me about the call for the scholarship DVM ELIA MARGARITA RODRIGUEZ CHAVEZ which was focused especially in swine farming, so I go to my coordinator Esther Elizabeth Rizo Bustos, which guides me and motivates me to apply for the scholarship. After completing the corresponding paperwork, I approached my coordinator who began to talk to me about Dr. Martha Acosta, telling me that she was the first woman to graduate from the School of Veterinary Medicine and that from the beginning she has been dedicated to swine farming.
Thanks to the scholarship granted by the foundation I was able to cover some expenses as well as focus on my training in swine husbandry, this with a constant updating through the acquisition of books and virtual forums, Also in the realization of projects that favored my knowledge within swine farming as was the development of a prototype of a pig production presented in the seventh edition of the fair expo-emprende del Centro Universitario del Sur, for which we obtained the second place at campus level where we will soon continue making improvements to it to become this more than a prototype
On the other hand, my grades have improved significantly, reflecting my commitment to the foundation, to my career and to myself. I am deeply grateful to the Martha Acosta Foundation for providing me with the opportunity for growth and training in swine farming that was granted to me through the scholarship. I recognize the great commitment they have with the students of Veterinary Medicine, and I wish that more students have access to such opportunities as I had so they can strengthen and develop new skills within this great sector such as swine farming.”

“In advance, I am very grateful for the support received from the Martha Acosta Foundation, since my experience in obtaining this scholarship is very gratifying because it allowed me to have the opportunity to participate and I can even interact with important people in the area of swine farming and exchange phone numbers and social networks which I have been able to follow and be aware of the pages and conferences that broadcast live, this is called Swine Vision.
Being very interesting because it keeps me informed of the most recent activities and even the congresses that are coming up because previously I was not aware of these activities that now I know seem very important to reinforce knowledge and continue learning more about pig farming. As well as with your support.
I will be able to accomplish one of my goals by doing my thesis in an experimental way using the scholarship to cover expenses that are involved in it.
Finally, I hope to continue to have the honor of learning more about the foundation and participating in activities.”
